This streamlined process development is also done in small scale and high throughput to reduce timelines and costs and maximize the output. We use a modern microbioreactor platform to perform up to 48 fermentations simultaneously in a single microtiter plate with online monitoring of valuable process data like biomass, DO, pH and fluorescence. The proteins produced are then screened for yield and quality. This can be done using various methods such as SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, ELISA or enzymatic activity. The results are analysed to identify the optimal conditions for protein expression. Combined with purification data also in a high-throughput format, the process is well prepared for upscaling and production of large quantities of your target protein.
